Reds sweep Red Sox

Sarasota Herald Tribune
STAFF REPORT

SARASOTA -- Effrain Rodriguez threw five solid innings as the Reds beat the Red Sox 4-2 to finish off a sweep Sunday at Ed Smith Stadium.

The Reds won 10-4 in the opener, which was the finish of Tuesday's suspended game. They banged out 17 hits.

Rodriguez had a shaky first inning, but was in control after that. Four Red Sox errors led to three of the Reds' runs in the second game.

In the opener, Justin Reed went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles. Neftali Soto and Alexis Oliveras each went 3-for-5. Soto had a three-run triple. David Scott (2-for-5) had a two-run single in the fifth.

Matt Cooney hit a two-run home run for the Red Sox.

At Pirate City in Bradenton, the Orioles never trailed in an 8-7 win over the Pirates.

Nick Ray went 3-for-5 with a triple and drove in two runs for the Orioles. Calvin Lester went 3-for-4, Elvin Polanco (2-for-3) had 2 RBI, and Tyler Kolodny had a single and double.

Ciro Rosero went 4-for-5 for the Pirates.
