Alvarez, Pirates fend off Red Sox

BRADENTON -- The Pirates used three straight hits to snap a 4-all tie en route to a 7-5 win over the Red Sox on Saturday at Pirate City.
Engel Beltre of the Red Sox hit a home run to make it 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning. He added a solo shot in the eighth.
The Pirates got the three hits and a Victor Alvarez sacrifice fly in the bottom half. Alvarez went 3-for-3 and Quincy Latimore homered for the Pirates.
Che-Hsuan Lin hit a two-run home run for the Red Sox.
In Fort Myers, the Twins led the Reds 2-1 when lightning and rain halted the game in the bottom of the fourth. It will resume Thursday at the City of Sarasota Sports Complex.
