SARASOTA -- The Pirates bolted to an 11-0 lead after two innings Saturday en route to a 15-2 pasting of the Orioles at Twin Lakes Park.
Daniel Bomback hit a two-run home run in a four-run first inning. The Pirates sent 13 to the plate in a seven-run second, keyed by Alex Vargas' two-run single and Raúl Peña's two-run double.
Bomback went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs as the Pirates collected 13 hits. Peña finished 3-for-6 and Vargas went 2-for-6 with three RBI.
Joe DiGeromino went 3-for- 4 for the Orioles, who got 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief from former Cardinal Mooney standout Derek Barrows.
At the City of Sarasota Sports Complex, two swings of the bat produced a four-run sixth inning as the Red Sox beat the Reds 5-1.
Luis Sumoza broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run double. Engel Beltre followed with a two-run homer to right field.
That made a winner out of José Alvarez. In five innings, he walked two, struck out two and allowed one hit, a two-out homer by the Reds' Carlos Méndez in the second inning.
