SARASOTA -- The Twins used a couple of sacrifice flies to get past the Reds 3-1 at the City of Sarasota Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Before the game, the Reds named Rick Burleson as their new manager. Ronnie Orgeton had been interim manager after Pat Kelly was promoted to the major-league staff recently.
Winner Mike McCardell allowed four hits, no walks and struck out nine over five innings.
David Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a double.
Dan Rohlfing and Yangervis Solarte each had a sacrifice fly.
For the Reds, Jose Bastardo homered and Kevin Feiner had a double and two singles.
In Bradenton, Yonelvy Canal scored the winning run for the Pirates in the bottom of the ninth on an error for a 5-4 decision over the Red Sox at Pirate City.
The Pirates loaded the bases with one out on a single by Canal, a walk, a sacrifice and intentional walk. Quincy Latimore then hit a ground ball to the shortstop, whose throw home was bad, and Canal scored.
